Creativity can be encouraged by just making people see their everyday environments in different ways. Allowing people to play in areas that are routinely not for playful purposes really helps encourage seeing things in a different light.
The Swiss creative collective called Democratie Creative aims to turn the gray cityscapes into playgrounds. Their initiative called “Spielplatz” is a result. They have applied common games such as trash basketball, sprints, maze solving, and the like to common landsmarks via simple line drawings and calls to action painted on the ground. Absolutely brilliant.
What I love so much about this is that beyond sparking creative juices the initiative also fuels positivity and a good mood. You break from the thoughts of the day, from the stresses from work for a short minute allowing you to see your reality differently. More cities should do this.
