Despite a notable increase in the appreciation and celebration of art thanks to technology and globalization, artists continue to struggle to get exposure. The right eyes on the right piece can spark not merely a long relationship but also fame that would not have been possible otherwise. For this reason I absolutely love this initiative from Saatchi & Saatchi.
Starting on July 18th, 2012, each day for 100 days, Saatchi Online is revealing a selection of 10 artists to watch, each handpicked by curators with incredible pedigree from institutions such as the LACMA, the Hirshhorn, and the Palais de Tokyo. By the end of the 100 days a total of 1000 artists will be showcased in this global online exhibition. It is the first of its kind and provides a unique inside view of emerging talents. Moreover this platform allows artists to promote and sell their work which would have been more difficult through conventional channels.
You can explore all the curators picks at the “100 curators in 100 days” website – see here. I am very impressed with Saatchi & Saatchi of late because they are making notable efforts to build and celebrate the emerging creative community. We need only look at their annual New Directors Showcase in Cannes which has a huge following. You would think this is more widespread within the industry but that is not the case. So, well done!
Here is a sampling of some of the work but have a look at the website – http://www.saatchionline.com/100curators
